Salary Range (pro-rata)

Age 16/17

  • Year 1 - £14,521 pa
  • Year 2 - £22,800 pa

Age 18 +

  • Year 1 - £21,122 pa
  • Year 2 - £25,482 pa

 (Please note that if you are aged 17 in year 1 of your apprenticeship you will only receive age 18 salary in year 2)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated, organised, and enthusiastic individual to work as an Apprentice Corporate Payments & Control Officer within Bradford Council’s Revenues, Benefits and Customer Service.

We are looking for individuals who are committed to undertaking an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administrator. The Department of Corporate Resources would like to recruit someone who is enthusiastic, competent and flexible. 

To qualify for the apprenticeship – you must have GCSE Maths and English at Grades A-C or 4-9 or be able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy through assessment 

As this is an Advanced Apprenticeship opportunity, successful applicants at the selection stage will be assessed first on numeracy/literacy skills.  Only successful applicants from the assessment centre process will be interviewed.  

Please note that if a candidate possesses a qualification at the same level or at a higher level in the same specific subject area as the advertised apprenticeship the candidate would not be eligible for apprenticeship funding and therefore must not apply. If unsure please enquire.  

To meet the apprenticeship funding requirements, you must be entitled to work in the UK and have been a resident for 3 years.       

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment, training and the range of job activities where it is possible for you to complete your full apprenticeship.  

To undertake an apprenticeship role in a busy team and work towards passing the apprenticeship End Point Assessment. The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme. 

The successful candidate will be involved in processing and reconciling millions of pounds of both incoming and outgoing payments across BACS, CHAPS, Faster Payments, Card Payments and Cheques using multiple systems. 


 The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Assist with the processing and reconciliation of multiple BACS Direct Debit, Auddis Direct Debit Mandates and Direct Credit files in accordance with a strict weekly schedule, Direct Debit Scheme Rules and Council Financial Regulations.
  • Assist with the process and reconciliation of BACS Direct Credit recalls and rejections, Direct Debit rejections, Direct Debit Indemnity Claims, Council Tax and Business Rates refunds and card payment refunds and chargebacks in accordance to strict bank/regulation mandated processes and deadlines 
  • Process Faster Payment/CHAPS requests in compliance with Financial Coding and Financial Regulations, seek approval from official bank mandate holders and Specialists. 
  • Support the investigation of unallocated bank credits in the Credit Transfer/Suspense Account which are missing references. Determine the correct reference by searching for payee’s details on the internet, contact them and manually allocate payment. Individual payments often exceed millions of pounds.
