Assistant Curator

Job Introduction

Bradford District Museums & Galleries are looking for an Assistant Curator of Collections to provide high quality access, interpretation, documentation, and engagement with our collections. The candidate will have a diverse skill set, with the ability to work with large and varied museum collections. You will put audiences at the heart of everything we do, promoting greater understanding, appreciation and engagement of the collections while ensuring a high standard of collections care. Through a range of exhibitions, research, talks, tours and documentation work you will ensure that the collections are accessible, diverse and relevant to our audiences.

From Bees to Pre-Raphaelites, Treasure Hoards to Trams, we have a richly diverse and significant range of collections that includes Archaeology, Fine & Decorative Art, Social & Industrial History, Natural Sciences and Photographic Archives as well as a Designated collection of Worsted textiles, sitting at the heart of Bradford’s unique industrial heritage story.

Working across our four venues; Bolling Hall, Bradford Industrial Museum, Cliffe Castle Museum and Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in addition to collections storage facilities within the Bradford District, you will need to be able to manage multiple projects effectively, combining high professional standards with great people skills. 

Bradford District Museums and Galleries work in partnership to deliver our mission of making the collections accessible to diverse audiences through creative and participative programming and ensure that everyone in Bradford District has access to ambitious, world class art, heritage and cultural experiences.  Bradford District Museums & Galleries is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, building on a leading role as part of Bradford 2025 City of Culture.

 The main responsibilities of this role:

  • To assist with the documentation and care of the collections
  • To undertake research into the collections, producing interpretation and delivering tours 
  • With the collections curatorial team, run the museum enquiry service
