Safe & Sound Control Room Operator – Casual 

Bradford Adult Services operates Safe & Sound, a 24-hour community alarm service which provides a monitoring service to older and vulnerable people throughout the district.  

The Control Operator is the main point of contact for our Safe & Sound service users and will co-ordinate responses according to need and procedures, e.g. contacting Fire, GP, Ambulance, Care Providers or family members on their behalf in an emergency. 

You must have customer service experience including experience of telephone information/advice work and an ability to write concisely and legibly, together with experience of using computer systems/information technology. A background or knowledge of the social care sector is desirable. 

 

As we are a 24-hour service any successful candidate(s) may be offered shifts throughout days and/or nights 


Role Description

To provide a high quality, prompt, courteous and sensitive social alarm calls monitoring service for clients across the whole of the district, contacting emergency services (police fire etc.) next of kin or other identified services i.e. Response team in emergencies to help and support the service user.

To provide the Council’s 24/7 out of hour’s service, passing calls to other council out of hour services, filtering and dealing with out of hours Home Care problems and monitoring Domestic Violence services.


 The main responsibilities of this role:

  • To take social alarm calls on the specialised control centre software, handling appropriately the diverse range of calls and to contact next of kin, emergency services, Response teams or other Council departments to support the service user in an emergency and gain access to the service user’s property.

  • To act responsibly on information received, assess the priorities of the call, remain calm, and taking the appropriate and necessary actions, handling of confidential information where necessary (emergency services and access).

  • To provide timely support and arrange a response to the service users need, preventing hospital admissions, referring vulnerable clients who may require a review of their care package. 

  • To make courtesy calls to service users who have not placed test calls or come through to the control centre for two months or more, requesting they place a test call via their equipment and checking that the information held on the system is correct and up to date.

  • To have a good general knowledge of a wide variety of departments and services within the council e.g. social workers, occupational therapists, EDT, Access point, to be able to take calls at all times and answer the queries or problems that may not be Safe & Sound related.
