Data Protection Officer (Casual)

Job Introduction

The Council's Corporate Information Governance Team deal with all requests for information and is committed to providing an excellent service, ensuring that all systems, policies and procedures are fit for purpose.

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is responsible for monitoring the Council’s internal compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), other data protection legislation and data protection policies in addition to informing and advising the Council on data protection obligations. 

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative DPO (Casual) to work within our Corporate Information Governance Team to proactively develop and support a culture of excellent information governance practice across the Council.

As Data Protection Officer you will be required to work in a small but busy team providing independent advice to the Councils highest management level, including the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO). You will be responsible for the development, implementation and review of all policies, guidance, procedures and solutions relating to data protection ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. 

We are looking for someone with excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills who can inform and advise key stakeholders of data protection requirements in an accessible and engaging way. You will have a positive, solutions-focused approach and will have strong negotiation and influencing skills and be able to collaborate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.  You will be able to work on your own initiative and will demonstrate drive and tenacity to deliver high quality outcomes and have effective decision making skills, on often complex matters with wide ranging implications. You will review all Data Security Incidents (DSI's) reported to the team and act as the primary contact for those that are reported to the supervisory authority, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

To apply for this post you will need to have;- 
1. substantial experience of working in an public or private organisation where information governance /data protection has been a prominent feature of the role OR substantial experience of  working in a local authority environment in a role where independent decision making and the provision of advice and guidance to a wide range of Council Services/Departments has been a prominent feature.
2. Degree level qualification (or equivalent) OR at significant experience as a Data Protection Officer)
3. Professional qualification in Data Protection
