Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture is getting ready to bring 12 unforgettable months of creativity, culture and the arts. We are excited to look for a motivated officer with a can do approach to join our City of Culture Team. You will provide on-site support over a 14-month programme maintaining high levels of cleanliness and enforcement of environmental issues.
You will support the Environmental Enforcement Team to tackle waste crime such as fly tipping, littering/dog control offences and commercial/ residential waste problems.
You will support the Environmental Enforcement Team to take informal and formal actions against the perpetrators of environmental crimes such as fly tipping, illegal and unauthorised waste treatment, storage and disposal of waste.
You will also ensure that businesses and householders dispose of their waste properly and will deal with nuisance arising from accumulations and the burning of waste. You will be expected to participate in educational campaigns to raise awareness and enforce the law, often with partners such as the Police and Environment Agency.
You will be required to serve statutory notices, issue fixed penalty notices and prepare prosecution files for offences relating to vehicle idling, burning of commercial and domestic waste and other waste related offences such as fly tipping, littering, dog fouling and dog control offences and breaches of Waste Duty of Care.
Suitable applicants will need to have:
• Experience of regulatory/enforcement /legal systems.
Or:
• Some of the experience as above and educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an area related to at least one of the following: waste regulation, environmental health, environmental enforcement or criminal investigation.
And
• Applied knowledge and understanding of the legal and technical aspects of enforcement work, particularly in relation to gathering evidence for statutory action or legal proceedings.
• An understanding of, and ability to demonstrate appropriate application of the process of enforcement.
• An ability to understand and apply technical information relevant to the enforcement of legislation relating to waste crimes.
• Able to use and interrogate standard and nonstandard IT packages.
• An ability to communicate information.
• A full driving license and be insured to use your vehicle for work.
