Job Introduction
We are seeking compassionate and skilled Social Workers or Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs). We have a number of posts available across the service, and you will be joining us at an exciting time as we strengthen and expand our social work roles within mental health. We welcome both experienced practitioners and those completing their ASYE. Across all roles, there is a strong emphasis on supporting people within their local neighbourhoods and communities, helping to prevent or delay the escalation of needs, upholding people’s rights, and recognising the vital role of carers.
This is an excellent opportunity for practitioners with a strong interest in mental health, including those aspiring to progress into AMHP practice. Qualified AMHPs will receive an additional £5,000 market supplement, which brings the full salary range to £47,893 – £51,142. We also welcome applicants from other areas of social work who are keen to develop their expertise in mental health.
You will be part of Community Mental Health Teams serving a diverse demographic across the district. You will be working in a strong and active partnership with Bradford Mental Health Trust, bringing together social work and health expertise to deliver coordinated, high‑quality support. This partnership approach is central to how we work, ensuring that people receive help as close to home as possible, with early intervention and community‑based support reducing the need for more intensive services.
We are looking for individuals with excellent interpersonal skills who can build effective working relationships with colleagues, partner agencies, carers, and the people who use our services. You will be confident in assessing risk and promoting safe, positive risk‑enablement that enables people to remain active and connected within their communities.
In this role, you will support people with complex mental health needs who require coordinated input from health, social care, and voluntary sector services. We need candidates who can help us fulfil our statutory duties under the Care Act and the Mental Health Act, ensuring that people and their carers receive the right support in their local communities. This includes a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, upholding people’s rights, and delaying the escalation of needs through community‑based, strengths‑led approaches. A solid understanding of the social factors that affect people’s lives is essential, as is a commitment to person‑centred, strength‑based, and community‑embedded practice that helps individuals maintain independence and belonging in their local neighbourhoods.
Your role will focus on Local Authority statutory responsibilities. These include undertaking Care Act assessments, identifying individuals with eligible needs, recognising Section 42 safeguarding concerns, and ensuring carers are offered appropriate assessment and support. A solid understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act is also required, alongside a commitment to supporting people safely within their own communities.
We offer a supportive working environment with flexible working arrangements and access to a wide range of continuous professional development opportunities. You will receive regular reflective supervision and an annual appraisal.
