HGV (Class2) Waste Driver Collector

Job Introduction

Waste Collections are responsible for the collection of recycling and domestic waste from nearly 250,000 households within the Bradford district. The successful candidate  will hold a key role in the delivery of this key service.

Role Description

 We are looking for a Waste Driver/collector to join our dedicated team in the Waste Collections. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city. 

 The main responsibilities of this role:

 1.   To be responsible for and drive a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) in often challenging       conditions whilst  work as a member of a team engaged in the collection and disposal of refuse from domestic and commercial properties.
2    Able to work in all weather conditions
3    To drive and operate the Council’s vehicles in accordance with relevant legislation and the Council’s Policies and Procedures as required.
4.   To liaise with members of the public, with a focus on improving recycling participation and customer satisfaction.
5.   To be responsible for up to 3 colleagues ensuring all PPE is worn and all work    collection producers are followed
6. Responsible for collating all accurate collection data and uploading such to the in cab data system to allow management to assess trends for future planning
7.Responsible for identifying training needs for fellow crew members
8. Deal with the public in a polite and helpful manner, giving due regards to their property.
9.   To promote and deliver a fair and high quality service that is sensitive to the needs of all communities in the District.
10. To adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures.
11. To undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternate systems of work relating to all aspects of service delivery.
12. Act in liaison with supervision on matters of discipline, policy and the handling of complaints.
13. To be responsible for their own and their colleagues health and safety and that of others who may be affected by the work.
14. Complete vehicle records, defect reports, accident forms or other associated information.
15. Undertake driver’s checks and maintenance of vehicle including refill with fuel, oils, water etc.
16 .Responsible for the evacuation from the vehicle and the crew ensuring a 3 meter safety zone is established additionally responsible for training new crew members in vehicle fire evacuations. 
17. Responsible for up to £250,000 of vehicle assets.
