Landscape Architect - Nature Towns & Cities

Job Introduction

Landscape Architect – Nature Towns and Cities: Bradford’s Green Blue Steppingstones

Nature Towns and Cities is a national coalition of public, private and third-sector organisations committed to bringing nature and green space into urban areas. Bradford has been successful in its bid to join the programme with Bradford’s Green Blue Steppingstones: Connecting People and Nature Across Our Towns and Cities, and we are seeking a talented Landscape Architect to help deliver this transformational 2-year initiative.

Bradford’s Green Blue Steppingstones will revitalise green and blue spaces across the district to improve biodiversity, climate resilience, community wellbeing and access to nature. Through habitat mapping, co-design with local communities, partnerships with landowners, and innovative approaches to long-term blue-green infrastructure management, the programme aims to create healthier, greener urban environments for generations to come.

Bradford Council has recently developed an enviable reputation for the quality of its urban landscape projects including the award-winning remodelling of Bradford City centre. Bradford’s Green Blue Steppingstones is the next exciting chapter in our placemaking journey.

The Role

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and committed Landscape Architect to support the delivery of the Green Blue Steppingstones programme. You will play a key role in designing nature-rich, people-friendly landscapes that promote biodiversity, climate resilience and community wellbeing. Working collaboratively with communities, technical specialists, council teams and partners, you will help turn ideas into inspiring and inclusive public spaces.

The Landscape Architect will be part of a project team with the roles of Programme Manager, Green Space Change Instigator and Community Engagement Officer also currently out for recruitment. The project team will also include a Social Prescriber and a Wood Creation Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the design of high-quality, climate-resilient landscapes that enhance biodiversity and encourage active, healthy lifestyles.
  • Work closely with communities through meaningful engagement and co-design processes to reflect local aspirations.
  • Produce concept designs, masterplans and technical drawings for blue-green infrastructure interventions, including parks, verges, streetscapes, urban greening and nature corridors.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate SuDS, active travel, play, habitat creation and planting solutions into designs.
  • Support planning applications, design approvals and construction stages, liaising with contractors, internal teams and partners.
  • Monitor implementation of landscape improvements to ensure delivery quality, accessibility and long-term sustainability.
  • Contribute to evaluation, storytelling and knowledge-sharing activities to support programme learning and wider replication.

About You

You will bring:

  • Experience in landscape design, ideally within urban, community or environmental contexts.
  • Strong creative and technical skills, with the ability to develop concept designs and produce high-quality drawings.
  • Confidence in working collaboratively with communities and partners through co-design and engagement.
  • Knowledge of climate-resilient design, biodiversity, SuDS and sustainable placemaking principles.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects.
  • A passion for connecting people with nature and creating meaningful, inclusive public spaces.
