Job Introduction
The library team at Bradford Libraries is dedicated to delivering inclusive and high-quality library services across the district. They manage a variety of library models, including council-run, community-managed, and hybrid libraries, as well as the Home Library Service and outreach programs. The team works collaboratively to ensure excellent service delivery, supporting both staff and volunteers to meet community needs and foster continuous improvement.
The Library Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of customer-focused and inclusive library services across the district. This includes managing council-run, community-managed, and hybrid libraries, as well as the Home Library Service and outreach programs. The role requires close collaboration with Area Managers to ensure seamless service delivery and coverage.
A key aspect of this role is the management and development of operational staff and volunteers. The Library Operations Manager oversees Area Managers and the Access & Inclusion Officer, providing the necessary coaching and support to maintain high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
Building and maintaining positive relationships with community-managed libraries is a crucial responsibility. The Library Operations Manager ensures regular communication, advice, and training to support these libraries in delivering excellent services.
The role also involves fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the library services. By utilizing customer feedback and data, the Library Operations Manager works with Area Managers and Volunteer Coordinators to establish and implement development plans for each library.
Collaboration is essential, as the Library Operations Manager works with other library teams, Council staff, and external partners to deliver a wide range of services that meet local priorities. Representing the Library Service on Area Leadership Teams, the manager contributes to the development and delivery of Local Area Plans.
The Library Operations Manager also oversees budgets, ensures health and safety, and maintains the security of staff, stock, and premises. Additionally, the role involves leading change projects, such as new library designs, technology implementations, and volunteer recruitment and contributes to service planning and strategic decision-making as part of the Libraries Management Team and deputizes for the Head of Service when required.
