MOT/Vehicle Inspector

Job Introduction

We have a vacancy for 1 x MOT / Vehicle Inspector to work in the Council’s Fleet Workshop.  We are looking for a competent individual who can adopt a flexible approach to work in order that priorities and service deadlines may be met. There may be times when hours of work need to be flexible to ensure staff 


The priority for the MOT / Vehicle Inspector will be to carry out MOT and Hackney Carriage & Private Hire Inspections on motor vehicles in accordance with DVSA Regulations. This is to be done in a safe, legally compliant and cost-efficient way to support the Council’s vehicle operations/usage and the Hackney Carriage & Private Hire service and trade.

It is essential that applicants:
  • are an apprentice trained motor vehicle mechanic to City & Guilds 380/383 level 2, or NVQ Level 3 or alternatively have undergone other training to a similar standard
  • must be able to demonstrate full time experience in a workshop environment as an experienced mechanic
  • hold a current driving licence
  • are a class 4,5 & 7 MOT tester or be willing to work towards
  • can actively contribute to the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment
  • are reliable, co-operative, flexible and capable of reacting to fast changing circumstances
  • have well developed customer service skills
  • act with courtesy and professionalism at all times

Special Conditions:
  • Physically demanding effort required on specific walking, kneeling, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting and carrying or any other physical attribute required
  • May be required to manoeuvre vehicles

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed individual, highly motivated in meeting the needs of both the employer and the customer.

Hours: Monday – Thursday 07:45 – 15:45 / Friday 07:45 – 15:15
