The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The Payroll & Pension Liaison Service are recruiting for a Payroll Officer, who will contribute to provision of a high performing payroll service. Working as part of a friendly and supportive team and reporting to the Payroll Team Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing payroll for several Council Departments and will be the main point of contact for these departments offering high quality advice and guidance on payroll related matters.
This is a customer facing role; therefore the successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be confident in dealing with people from a variety of backgrounds.
Some of the key competencies of the successful candidate are as follows:
- Can demonstrate a high level of numeracy, literacy and accuracy across a range of activities.
- Processing of high volume of data for weekly, and monthly payrolls to ensure compliance with agreed policies, procedures, employment, pensions and HMRC legislation.
- Processing statutory payments for sickness, maternity and paternity, and able to calculate tax and national insurance.
- Working to strict payroll deadlines and able to effectively manage their own workload.
- Good communication skills to liaise with employees and managers to give payroll related advice and guidance.
- Able to use a variety of Microsoft Packages including Outlook, Word and Excel.
The successful candidate must be able to prove how they match the key competencies held within the job profile required for the role and be willing to work towards the others. Experience of working in a payroll environment would be highly advantageous.
