Job Introduction

Bradford Council Public Health team are seeking to recruit skilled and ambitious Public Health Specialists into our team, Public Health is part of a Health and Wellbeing Department that includes Adult Social Care and Environmental Health. As a Public Health Specialist, you will need to have demonstrable experiences in the application of public health skills. Successful applicants will also be adept at developing strategic approaches into deliverable work programmes. An ability to work flexibly on a dynamic and emergent programmes of work is key as well as experience of building strong relationships with a diverse range partners from across the system.

Bradford Council is large unitary authority with an excellent reputation. The district provides an interesting and challenging environment for Public Health work, having a wide inequality in life expectancy and a legacy of strong partnership working across health, social care and VCS partners. These permanent positions are both funded by the DHSC Smoking Cessation Grant and will be responsible for delivering key elements of this work programme. All senior roles in the team are expected to be able to be able operate across the breadth of public health areas as well as within their allocated remit.

Public Health Specialist: Research and Evaluation 

To lead on research and evaluation of the public health programmes providing in-depth analysis and insights of all of the Living Well projects which contribute to our whole systems approach. This role will work to support evaluation of projects and programmes across the public health team applying evidence reviewing and evaluation skills to complement the work of the health intelligence team.  As a permanent role funded by the DHSC smoking cessation grant the post holder will play a key role in evaluation and insight in the implementation of the smoking cessation grant programme of work in addition to the broader support to the wider team. 

Public Health Specialist: Training & Development 

This role will lead on the strategic development and implementation of the Living Well Academy work programme responsible for equipping people and partners in Bradford district with the necessary skills to support behavioural change. This permanent role is funded by the DHSC smoking cessation grant and so, in addition to supporting the broader Living Well Academy needs, the postholder will be responsible for leading and coordinating the district wide rollout of NCSCT VBA+ training for both the smoking cessation work and the Swap to Stop initiative and establishing this into structured approach through the ‘Living Well champions’ programme. This programme will involve the development and co-ordination of the approach to train up volunteers and community leaders to be part of a social movement to improve health outcomes, with a core focus on smoking cessation. The postholder will be adept at establishing relationships to ensure optimum engagement with system partners to maximise the uptake of the workforce and community members with training and development opportunities.
