Senior Engineer (Highway Maintenance North)

Job Introduction

The team is multi-disciplinary, covering planned and reactive maintenance of carriageways, footways, drainage etc. along with safety and condition inspections and overall highway asset management.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our dedicated team in the Department of Place. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city. 


The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for managing a team of three Inspectors. You will lead on the planning, procurement and supervision of carriageway, footway, drainage, etc. repairs and improvements, and associated surveys and assessments. 
  • You will be responsible for managing specified budget allocations and ensuring compliance with best engineering principles and Codes of Practice, whilst having due regard to health & safety.
  • You will be required to undertake some work outside normal office hours, including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays and to participate in emergency and winter standby arrangements.
  • You must have the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external to the Authority and be an ‘innovative’ thinker who can enhance our team and the Highway Maintenance function.
