Senior Environmental Health Officer

Job Introduction

We are seeking 2 x full time Senior Environmental Health Officers to join the Environmental Health Service, based in the Pollution Team. 

Bradford is UK City of Culture 2025 so this is an exciting time to join the Environmental Health Service and to be part of the challenge leading up to and during 2025.You will be required to assist the Environmental Health Manager (EHM) to develop and deliver a high quality, cost effective and efficient service compliant with legislation, guidance, Council policies and procedures. 

You will need to provide technical advice and day to day supervision to a team of professional, technical, and trainee staff to ensure enforcement activity is undertaken in line with legislation. This includes organising and directing the inspection, scheduling and instigation of appropriate enforcement activity in relation to environmental health issues and monitoring and controlling the level of service provided by the team and contractors acting on the Council’s behalf. In addition, you will also oversee and mentor trainee EHO’s.

You will also be expected to provide expert advice on highly complex technical, legislative and contractual matters relating to the delivery of the environmental health service.

You will be enthusiastic, committed, self-motivated and have a ‘can-do’ attitude, including excellent communication skills.

For the post you must hold a recognised degree/MSc in Environmental Health or a recognised diploma in Environmental Health and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board or Registration/Chartered status with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. You must have the level of experience as an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner in food safety or pollution control aspects of environmental health to demonstrate the criteria outlined in the job profile.
