Youth Support Worker

Job Introduction

Bradford Council aims to ensure that young people can access a range of activities that take place in safe spaces, where young people can develop a sense of belonging, socialise with their peers and develop relationships with adults they can trust. We recognise that with the right supportive relationships, strong ambitions and good opportunities all young people can realise their potential and be positive and active members of society.  Young people are able to access youth provision in each of Bradford’s constituencies with the Youth Service providing around 90 sessions each week. There is strong focus on open access youth provision that enables all young people to participate in activities that support their health and wellbeing. Bradford Council is seeking to appoint a Youth Support Worker who will support on the delivery of the Youth Offer as part of an area team, working multiple evenings each week.

Please note that post-holders will be required to work between the hours of 5pm – 9pm multiple evenings each week and some weekends. 

  • To initiate and develop relationships with 11 – 19 years old's and up to 25 year old's for young people with disabilities.
  • To work directly with young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and engage in positive activities. 
  • To support the design and develop youth work responses underpinned by the Youth Service cornerstones of Equality, Participation, Education and Empowerment.
  • To support the development and delivery of the Youth Offer that is informed by the voice of young people and is able to meet their needs.

To be ready for this opportunity you need to possess:

  • Experience of working with young people in a variety of settings.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and regulations including risks in Youth Work.
  • Uses a range of basic IT packages 
  • Committed to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery.
  • Knows and understands how to keep personal information safe and confidential.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of working with the issues, which are important and impact on the lives of young people.
  • Understand what the most important skills when building relationships with young people.
  • Understanding of equality of opportunity and voluntary participation in a youth work situation.
  • To deliver the skills to enable young people to work effectively in groups
  • To work as part of a team to deliver youth work
  • To be available to work multiple evenings per week.

An Enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be undertaken for this post. 

You must be able to work outside of regular office hours. The successful candidate will be based at the West Office but will be expected to undertake work across the Bradford District
