The Role:
We are seeking a specialist Moving and Handling advisor to join our existing OT Moving and Handling team. You would be supported by a team manager and senior practitioner as well as our existing experienced occupational therapists and Moving and Handling specialists.
This team works in close partnership and collaboration with our private care providers to; assess individual’s moving and handling needs and identify appropriate risk reduction approaches and optimal level of care provision, through specialist moving and handling guidance, environmental changes and equipment provision. This is a fast-paced role, candidates will need to be flexible, have excellent communication skills, be confident in undertaking challenging conversations, have a positive approach to risk management and problem solving and a passion for this clinical area.
As a specialist moving and handling advisor, you will also support OTs, as required, across our department to undertake joint assessments and provide guidance for complex cases, particularly in relation to safeguarding, mental capacity, DoL’s, Court of Protection.
Alongside clinical responsibilities, this role also incorporates the successful candidate delivering our mandatory Moving and Handling training offer across Adult Social Care (including for community and residential care staff, social workers and OT’s) in collaboration with our existing Moving and Handling specialists.

The successful candidate must possess the following skills:
- Have an accredited Train the Train qualification and be registered with a professional body (e.g. NBE, RCN, HCPC) and/or be a registered Health professional (RGN, CSP or OT).
- Have extensive experience (a minimum of 5,000 hours) as a moving and handling specialist, preferably within a community setting.
- Have significant experience of managing complex caseloads.
- Have a knowledge and practical understanding of relevant legislation including the Care Act and Moving and Handling legislation.
- Be open to new ideas, flexible and be able to encourage others to adapt to and embrace change.
