Casual Theatre Technician

Job Introduction

The Kings Hall, Ilkley, has a vacancy for a casual technician. 

Applicants must have a keen interest in the Arts and Entertainment sector either in an amateur or professional environment.

A good working knowledge of the technical side of working in an entertainment venue is required. You will understand theatre working practices, technical theatre terminology and an understanding of operating electrical equipment.

The successful candidate will meet deadlines, interpret stage, audio and lighting requirements, safely rig and de-rig equipment and implement this knowledge into the production or event. After any identified training, you will operate lighting desks and live mix sound for shows, speech and music. Working as part of a team, and when necessary, working unsupervised with minimum instruction.

In addition to providing technical support, applicants are required to carry out routine repairs and maintenance. You will communicate effectively and clearly with members of the public and venue hirers.

Applicants must understand legislation relating to Health & Safety applicable to Venues used for theatre and entertainment and understand the principles of safe working practices. To include assistance with evacuation as and when required. 

Applicants must be able to work flexible and unsociable hours as required, which may include split shifts at other Bradford theatre venues.

The post involves the full use of all types of access equipment and is physically demanding, with frequent moving of both large and heavy pieces of equipment.

 The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Provide technical support for visiting companies
  • Assist with emergency evacuations
  • Work safely and responsibly
  •  Assist with get in and gets when required
  •  Work as part of a team
