Job Introduction
The Markets Service is part of the Economy & Development Service within the Department of Place and operates three major retail indoor markets, two in Bradford City Centre and one at Keighley, and outdoor markets at Shipley, Bingley & Ilkley. In addition, the service operates a Wholesale Market and delivers a number of independent open air market style events.
The two indoor markets in Bradford city centre will close when our new multi million pound market in Darley Street along with its open air market square opens next year.
Darley Street Market has three trading levels of non-food, fresh food and the upper floor dedicated for hot food and beverage and home to thirteen independent street food retailers with seating for nearly five hundred customers. The market will also have two ground floor cafés facing out onto the market square.
A key aim of the Food Hall is to deliver an bustling events venue to the city centre anchored by great local ‘street food’ operators. The Food Hall has a balcony that overlooks and connects with the main events square, which has been designed for all round year use with a large screen and heated/ lit umbrellas. The internal stage area and flexible seating spaces will enable regular smaller events from comedy and acoustic events to larger private parties.
The Food Hall will be the beating heart of the night time economy but with a great coffee lounge area, beautiful glass panels views and exclusive art and instagrammable installations, we expect it to contribute to the daytime economy, building on the strength of footfall to the market levels below.
We are looking for a Food Hall Manager to join our dedicated team that will lead on the management and operation of our the Food & Beverage level to ensure it becomes an established first class destination for both existing market users and to a whole new customer base.
The Food Hall is expected to be a key footfall and trading daytime anchor to the whole market and a key part of the rejuvenation of Bradford’s night time economy. You will play a key role in delivering the Council’s economic, cultural, regeneration, skills and health and well-being agenda. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.
The main responsibilities of this role are:
- To develop positive and collaborative working relationships with each food and beverage operator to ensure that relevant rules, procedures, legislation, agreed service levels and lease conditions are adhered to.
- To ensure the Food Hall is fully let and offers a trading mix that meets current and developing food trends.
- This is a community centric role and the successful candidate will be expected to keep abreast of the foodservice scene within the City and region and represent Darley Street Market within the wider foodservice industry.
- To ensure the effective management, maintenance and operation of the Food Hall, cafes back of house and public communal spaces, ensuring elevated levels of cleanliness, customer service, security and health and safety standards.
- To manage the relationship with key service providers including security, cleaners and waste disposal.
- To directly manage the small team of food hall staff – table cleaners and refuse disposal.
- To be responsible for delivering on financial targets, service, qualitative and quantitative performance targets and environment targets for the combined F&B spaces.
- To deliver commercial and income generating opportunities.
- To maintain an active marketing plan by managing social media content with each retailer and developing a programme of events and promotional including the curation of small stage activity.
- To ensure the integration of the Food Hall with the rest of the market and to occasional manage the whole building.
To meet this challenge, you should be first and foremost a ‘foodie’ with passion for great service and quality food and drink offers. You will have previous experience in a senior management role working in either Retail, Leisure, Facilities or Commercial Catering environment and possess good interpersonal skills, be enthusiastic and able to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required during the trading hours of the Food & Beverage Hall.
