Job Introduction
The Markets Service is part of the Economy & Development Service within the Department of Place and operates three major retail indoor markets, two in Bradford City Centre and one at Keighley, and outdoor markets at Shipley, Bingley & Ilkley. In addition, the service operates a Wholesale Market and delivers several independent open air market style events.
The two indoor markets in Bradford city centre will close when our new multi million pound market in Darley Street along with its open air market square opens in summer this year.
Darley Street Market has three trading levels of non-food, fresh food and the upper floor dedicated for hot food and beverage with an outdoor balcony that overlooks and connects to the main events square, which has been designed for all round year use with a large digital screen and heated/ lit umbrellas. An internal stage area will enable regular smaller events from comedy and acoustic events to larger private parties.
About the role and the main responsibilities
We are looking for an Engagement, Events & Programme Officer to join our dedicated team that will deliver a social media and website content strategy for Darley Street Market and the Markets’ Food Hall as well as a constant calendar of events, festivals and activities covering cultural and religious, sporting events and other general interest or entertainment events.
Darley Street Market is expected to become an established first class destination for both existing market users and to a whole new customer base. The Food Hall is expected to be a key footfall and trading daytime anchor to the whole market and a key part of the rejuvenation of Bradford’s night time economy. You will play a key role in delivering the Council’s economic, cultural, regeneration, skills and health and well-being agenda.

The main responsibilities of this role are:
- Ensuring the Market and Food Hall has a presence on all relevant digital platforms and web content for both the Market and Food Hall.
- Leveraging the Markets’ individual trader potential following by encouraging traders to repost compelling digital content and thereby encouraging viral marketing and market footfall.
- Creating diverse entertainment or activity for the Food Hall’s ‘Small’ Stage with the aim of programming a full calendar of activities to support the Food Hall across each day, week, month, and season.
- Support the creation of a full events programme aimed at driving attendance to the market..
- Actively seeking out all sponsorship opportunities for events, entertainment, or potential sponsorship assets
To meet this challenge, you should have an excellent knowledge of social media platforms and have a good understanding of the events, leisure, commercial and performing arts sector. You will have practical experience in a marketing and promotional role in either Retail, Leisure, or Food & Beverage sector, possess good interpersonal skills, be enthusiastic and able to work weekends and bank holidays as required.
