The Markets Service is part of the Economy & Development Service within the Department of Place and operates three major retail indoor markets, two in Bradford City Centre and one at Keighley, and outdoor markets at Shipley, Bingley & Ilkley. In addition, the service operates a Wholesale Market and delivers several independent open air market style events.
The two indoor markets in Bradford city centre will close when our new multi-million-pound market in Darley Street along with its open-air market square opens this year.
We are looking for a Market Superintendent to join our dedicated team that will play a key role in the day-to-day management and tenant liaison, promotion and development of one or more of the Council’s markets including open markets and specialist one-off events such as Christmas markets and food festivals.
You will be part of a team that delivers the Council’s economic, cultural, regeneration, skills and health and well-being agenda.

The main responsibilities of this role are:
• To be responsible for the efficient and effective cleaning, maintenance, security, promotion and other functions relating to the delivery of a quality service to market traders, their staff and the general public.
• To liaise and assist the Markets Publicity and Promotions Officer with the promotion of the markets, including the open markets using our social media platforms.
• To ensure through regular contact with market traders, compliance of health and safety regulations, byelaws and lease conditions and deal with items relating to the day-to-day issues, liaising with colleagues when appropriate.
• To allocate market stalls in accordance with current policies and procedures.
To meet this challenge, you should have an excellent knowledge of working in retail, leisure or commercial sector. You will have practical experience of managing and motivating staff and possess good people skills, be enthusiastic and able to work weekends and bank holidays as required.
