Senior Auditor

Job Introduction

We are looking for experienced Internal Auditors, who are AAT qualified or at least part qualified IIA, CIMA or CCAB.

Working for the Council will give you the opportunities for a wide range of experiences of how a large public sector body works. We aim to make a real difference to support and protect our stakeholders, and you will play a key role in how we continually move our service forward and be empowered to fully display your skills to make this difference.

You will be responsible for the delivery of risk-based audits, working as part of a forward-thinking team that provides an internal audit service across the Council.

The work will be varied and challenging.  You will provide assurance to management that the key risks within the Council are being managed effectively.  You will develop solutions where identified weaknesses expose the Council to unacceptable levels of risk.  You will advise management and other stakeholders on both internal audit matters and on the most effective governance, risk management and internal control arrangements.

Recent experience of local authority internal auditing would be an advantage but is not essential.

The main responsibilities of the post include to:

  • undertake complex internal audit assignments in accordance with public sector internal audit standards.
  • undertake a wide range of audit assignments, included in the Audit Plan, in order to strengthen and improve financial control, risk and governance arrangements across the Council and its partners.
  • communicate the results of internal audit assignments to audit clients in accordance with professional standards in an informed, confident, polite and understanding manner.
  • to research and maintain specialised knowledge in various financial disciplines to provide expert audit advice to and on behalf of the Council.
  • act as an Ambassador for Internal Audit by showing professionalism, high professional standards of integrity and courtesy at all times and to promote this culture throughout the oragnisation.
