Planning Technician

Job Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic team member who can help with the Council’s aims to maintain a first class planning service in the Bradford District.

With a population of over 500,000 Bradford has been identified as a key growth location within the Leeds City Region. Bradford Council processes around 3500 planning applications each year and with 59 conservation areas and over 20,000 listed buildings there is a wealth of heritage schemes. Bradford is also home to the renowned World Heritage Site “Saltaire”.

The varied workload involves householder applications, retail, housing and employment proposals and other commercial development evolving from numerous investment initiatives.

You will be a good negotiator and solution finder. You will be a member of a busy team dealing with planning applications and appeals. You will be able to complete written reports and present information to members of the public and elected members.

You will play an active role to ensure that the Bradford Council’s Planning Service makes a maximum contribution to the regeneration of Bradford and the achievement of a sustainable District.


The main responsibilities of this role:

  • To validate all type of applications, produce decision notices, and process basic applications, such as advertisement consents, prior approvals and house extensions; to prepare evidence for appeals; and, to provide advice and guidance to applicants, agents, the general public and members of the Council on matters related to the Planning Service.
