SkillsHouse Engagement Adviser

Job Introduction

We are seeking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Engagement Adviser to join SkillsHouse, Bradford Council’s all-age careers and employability service. The Engagement Adviser will play a key role in actively engaging Bradford residents who are unemployed or NEET, supporting them to access employment, skills and training services. The role focuses on outreach, relationship building and early engagement, encouraging customers to take their first steps towards work and onward progression.


Key Responsibilities

· Proactively engage residents through outreach activity, referrals and community based engagement

· Complete initial conversations and light-touch assessments to identify needs and aspirations

· Act as a first point of contact for the SkillsHouse service, including support with email and telephone enquiries

· Motivate and encourage individuals to engage with employability and skills provision

· Support customers to overcome initial barriers such as confidence, awareness or motivation

· Make appropriate referrals into Employment Advisers or partner services

· Build positive working relationships with community groups, partners and stakeholders

· Maintain accurate and timely records on management information systems

· Contribute to performance targets through KPIs

· Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth customer journeys

· Promote equality, inclusion and safeguarding in all aspects of delivery


Person Specification

Essential

· Experience of working with the public in an engagement, support or advisory role

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to build rapport and motivate individuals from diverse backgrounds

· Organised and able to manage activity effectively

· Confident using IT systems and recording customer interactions accurately

· Clean driving license and access to a car

Desirable

· Experience of outreach, community engagement or employability services

· Knowledge of barriers faced by unemployed or economically inactive individuals

· Understanding of local services, employment or skills provision

· Experience working to targets or outcomes
