Travel Assistance Co-ordinator

Job Introduction

Our team works in a busy and fast-moving environment assessing education travel assistance applications while maintaining effective communication and processes for applicants. We support eligible children and young people in accessing travel assistance appropriate to their assessed needs. We liaise with families, schools, the passenger transport team and colleagues across the organisation to deliver a consistent and customer-focused service.

We are looking for a Travel Assistance Co-ordinator to join our team within the Travel Assistance Service. This is a great opportunity to contribute to an essential service that supports children and young people across the district.

The role involves coordinating the application and assessment process for Home to School Travel Assistance in accordance with statutory guidance and Council policies. You will handle enquiries, apply eligibility criteria, manage reviews and lead on appeals. You will work with stakeholders to identify appropriate travel arrangements for eligible children and young people and support wider service priorities. The role also includes implementing administrative procedures, ensuring the service operates efficiently and deputising for the Operations Manager when required.

The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Coordinating the full application and assessment process for Home to School Travel Assistance.
  • Determining eligibility and ensuring appropriate arrangements are identified for those who qualify.
  • Making informed decisions when applying eligibility criteria and reviewing cases.
  • Coordinating stage one reviews through to completion when timely requests have been received and leading on appeals submitted in response.
  • Presenting decisions at the appeal stage where travel assistance was declined following review.
  • Handling complex and sensitive information as part of the assessment and review process.
  • Implementing administrative procedures and providing information and advice to customers and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of policies and processes.
  • Supporting the team and deputising for the Operations Manager when necessary.
