Gardener- Semi Skilled

Job Introduction

The parks maintenance team manages all parks, recreational grounds, cemeteries and highways verges across the district. 


We are looking for a Semi Skilled Gardener to join our dedicated team in the department of place. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city. 

A semi skilled gardener will work as part of a team or occasionally on their own, carrying out all general grounds maintenance duties, e.g. grass cutting, shrub and flower bed maintenance or any other horticultural tasks as identified on sites within the Local Authority district.

 The main responsibilities of this role:

  • Maintaining good public relations and dealing with enquiries from members of the public.
  • Ensuring that equipment is safe to use and that all safety requirements applicable to the operative, other employees and members of the public are adhered to.
  • Operation of and minor maintenance of mowing equipment, small tools and plant.
  • Security of equipment and plant being used on site.
  • Carrying out works to a high standard.
  • Own health and safety whilst working on site, and also responsible for colleagues and members of the public.  
  • Working in a public domain and adhering to Bradford Council’s code of conduct.
  • Carrying out day to day instructions from the Supervisor or Senior Parks Officer

It is essential that have:

  • Experience of working in a grounds maintenance setting.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture and / or demonstratable experience to operate at this level.
  • A full UK valid driving licence.
