Electoral Services Assistant

Job Introduction

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work within the Electoral Services team.

Electoral Services is responsible for the administration and organisation of elections (including Parliamentary General, District, Parish and Referendums) and maintaining the Electoral Register, on behalf of the Chief Executive in her roles as Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer.

Working to strict deadlines, the successful candidate must be able to understand and accurately apply technical information and legislation and have developed numeracy and accuracy skills to a high level.  You will work as part of the Electoral Services team, receiving training to assist with personal development and broaden your electoral knowledge.

The post holder will be responsible for working on all aspects of the electoral process, including registration and elections, within a demanding electoral environment and managing enquiries from citizens and Elected Members, effectively and to a high standard of service.

You will need to develop an understanding of electoral legislation and a specialist electoral services management system, which you will use extensively.

You must have administration experience and be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

·         Political awareness and sensitivity

·         Follow precise instructions

·         Work accurately with attention to fine detail

·         Excellent customer services skills, verbally and in writing

·         Tact, diplomacy and neutrality

 Qualifications:

 It is a requirement of the post that 3 GCSE/O Levels, grades A* - C (including English Language and Mathematics) have been achieved.

We are looking for an individual who is a team player, with a ‘can do’ positive attitude, resilient, excellent administration and communication skills and accepting personal responsibility for their work.  It is a condition of the post that you will be required to work extended and unsocial hours, Bank Holidays and weekends during busy periods.
