Job Introduction
The service that you will lead is responsible for supporting the Assistant Director (Finance, Administration and Governance) in the management of the Pension Funds’ administrative function, providing advice and guidance on all pensions administration matters, dealing with administrative performance, research, strategic issues, building and maintaining relationships with key service providers and presenting matters to the Pensions Committee and Board.
A ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to work under pressure and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines in a busy environment is essential.
This is some of what we need you to do...
- To lead, encourage, direct and motivate the pension administration teams in order to meet the business needs of the section.
- To develop, implement and promote a high performing compliant administrative function for the West Yorkshire Pension Fund. To advise the Assistant Director (Finance, Administration and Governance) on key strategic issues relating to the pensions administration function. Be the champion for excellent management of financial resources, to promote probity, efficiency and overall value for money, learning from best practice elsewhere.
- Have responsibility for producing and delivering various reports to the Pensions Committee and Board, for example the performance of the administration function against the administration strategy.
- Develop strong relationships with shared service partners and other funds to promote a culture of information sharing and partnership working
- Provision of expert and up to date advice to the Council, its Committees, Members and Employers on all matters relating to pensions administration. This will include representing the Fund at regional and national events and working groups.
- A relevant degree or a recognised pensions qualification, or a management qualification.
- Significant knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme. In addition, knowledge of the Fire Pension Schemes would be desirable.
- Substantial proven leadership and a record of successful management at a senior level. Includes having gained experience of participation in, and successful contribution to, the strategic decision making process
- A proven track record of embedding a strong performance culture, inspiring, motivating and empowering people to meet overall objectives and deliver services that are responsive, customer focussed and achieve results.
- Proven ability to organise and undertake a diverse workload, manage constant and often conflicting work demands, whilst achieving competing deadlines and targets.
- A successful record of managing change in a large multi-disciplinary organisation including developing, leading and implementing strategies and initiatives.
- Experience of working collaboratively with other pension funds and partners in promoting and strengthening partnership working.
- Senior managerial experience of successful resource management, and the delivery and measurement of cost effective, quality services.
- Experience of working effectively within a political environment as well as evidence of developing, implementing and monitoring clear standards of performance and service delivery outcomes.
- Strong understanding of pensions regulations, governance, and compliance requirements.
- Experience of implementing new processes and/or technological solutions in a financial environment to deliver efficiencies and savings.
